This cold and aged ensuite had a difficult layout and carpet up the side of the bath. The client wanted a warm, decorative and feminine space, and was keen to embrace pattern. We reconfigured the layout of the room, stealing a small amount of space from the adjoining loft to enable us to rotate a new bath into a position that made better use of the floor space, as did a new corner WC. The build incorporated wall and ceiling insulation to ensure a warm space with minimal heating, and movement-sensitive low-level lighting for night-time use. Instead of losing critical space and height by attempting to remove the quirky angles of the ceiling and walls, we honoured the authenticity of the wonky period property. We used a boldly patterned floral wallpaper on the main wall, from which we picked out the plaster pink to paint the sloped ceiling and remaining walls, and a deep blue for the bath panel and basin cabinet. A vintage mahogany mirror and artisan table added depth to the scheme, and dimmable wall and ceiling lights, along with the sheer linen blind, create the perfect ambiance to enjoy lazy long baths.
